  • Valerian and lorazepam may cause an adverse interaction.

  • Valerian may potentiate the effects of antiepileptic medications, increasing their sedative and cognitive effects.

  • Valerian should not be used concomitantly with barbiturates because excessive sedation may occur.

  • The findings in this study suggest adverse interactions between haloperidol and valerian are possible when taken together.

  • May produce sensations of “strangeness” in some individuals. These persons should not use valerian.

  • In extremely high doses, valerian may cause paralysis and weakening of the heartbeat. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

  • The concomitant use of opioid analgesics with the sedative herbal supplements, valerian, kava and chamomile, may lead to increased central nervous system (CNS) depression.

  • A study reports people experiencing hypotension and tachycardia after a mix containing chamomile, valerian and melissa.

  • The findings suggest adverse interactions between haloperidol and valerian. When administered concomitantly they provoked an inhibition of hepatic delta-ALA-D activity. The delta-ALA-D reactivation index was higher in rats treated with HP plus valerian than other treated groups.
